Burg Layer Johannisberg – This single vineyard is located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Burg Layen at an altitude of 195 to 290 metres. With a south-east orientation and a slope of 16 to 33%, the vines at this altitude benefit from optimal hours of sunshine. The soil consists mainly of stony loam, slate, quartzite and loess, giving the wines a characteristic minerality.
Despite a challenging 2023 vintage overall, we were able to harvest ripe grapes of the highest quality. The 100% ageing for 10 months in large wooden barrels ensures a complex variety of flavours with notes of ripe pear, quince, delicate almond nuances and a hint of vanilla. The ageing in wood gives the wine depth and structure.
On the palate, the Pinot Blanc is creamy and refreshing at the same time. The lively acidity is harmoniously supported by a mineral structure. The long finish leaves a lasting impression of elegance and finesse. The wine also promises excellent development over the next few years.
This Pinot Blanc goes perfectly with salt-crusted turbot with Mediterranean grilled vegetables.
